Mayor and Council
The Town Council is the legislative body for the Town of Hunts Point and consists of a Mayor and five Councilmembers, all of whom are residents of the Town elected at large by the registered voters of in Hunts Point. The Mayor and Councilmembers are volunteers who serve four-year terms and are eligible for re-election without term limits.

MEETINGS
Regular Council meetings are held on the first Monday of each month beginning at 6:00pm. If the first Monday is a legal holiday, the Council meeting is moved to the second Monday. Notices for public hearings are posted at least 10 days prior to the hearing. Council-meeting agendas are posted by the Thursday prior to the meeting date.
Special Council meetings may be held from time to time as needed. Notices and agendas for special meetings are posted at least 24 hours before the meeting.
Residents are encouraged to attend Council meetings and speak on issues of concern to them. Residents who cannot attend a meeting may submit written comments for the Council's consideration by emailing Town Hall staff or mailing them directly to Town Hall.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Town Council serves as the Town's legislative and administrative body. As a legislative body, the Council establishes the policies and goals of the Town through the passage of ordinances and adoption of resolutions and other policy documents. As an administrative body, the Council oversees the operation of the Town's daily affairs (as handled by Town staff), provides for regular maintenance of the Town's streets and other public property, plans and provides for the security of its residents, and handles other issues that may arise from time to time. The Council is also charged with authorizing the Town annual budget and its monthly operating expenditures.
The Mayor presides over all Council meetings, running the meetings according to Roberts Rules of Order. Residents are encouraged to attend all meetings and speak on issues of concern to them. Residents who cannot attend a meeting may submit written comments for the Council's consideration to Town Hall.
